What is Bill C-3?

Bill C-3 (2009) restored Canadian citizenship to people who lost it under previous nationality laws, and extended eligibility to the first generation born abroad to a Canadian parent. Many Cajuns and Acadians have ancestors who were born in what is now Canada before migrating to Louisiana.

If you can document an unbroken line from yourself to a Canadian-born ancestor, you may qualify for Canadian citizenship by descent. Legreffe's upcoming lineage qualifier tool will help you find and evaluate those paths.
